The Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks are high-altitude West Himalayan Landscapes in India. They are exceptionally beautiful and having outstanding biodiversity. Both these parks are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Centers.
Nanda Devi National Park
Nanda Devi is India’s second highest mountain, approached through the Rishi Ganga gorge – one of the deepest in the world. The Park is at 7,817 meter peak of Nanda Devi.
It is renowned for its remote mountain wilderness, protected on all sides by spectacular topographical features like Glaciers, Moraines and Alpine Meadows. The park has a wide range of high-altitude habitats, threatened mammals, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Musk Deer etc.
Valley of Flowers National Park
The Valley of Flowers National Park has breath-taking beautiful meadows of Alpine Flowers a gentler landscape. It is located in North Chamoli and Pithoragarh in the state of Uttarakhand.
It is a high-altitude Himalayan valley acknowledged by mountaineers, botanists and in literature. The Valley is 20km northwest of Nanda Devi National Park.
Since 1983 there are only some community based ecotourism to small portions of these peaks and acts as a control site for the maintenance of natural processes.
