Researches have shown that regular Yoga practice improves the Cardiovascular System and thereby health. Yoga lowers the Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Heart Rate and many other risk factors.
Cardiovascular System
The Cardiovascular System is composed of Heart and the network of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries that transport blood throughout our body. The blood is a carrier of Oxygen, Nutrients and Hormones which reach all the cells in the body. Blood also eliminate the Carbon Dioxide and other waste products from these cells. Therefore, good, unobstructed blood circulation is highly essential for a healthy body. A human body contains an average of five liters of blood.
Lack of movement, exercise and increased level of stress, tight fitting dress, hardened blood vessels and inflamed veins can cause poor blood circulation. Hardening of the blood vessels is known as Atherosclerosis. Our immune system can also be affected badly due to poor blood circulation and create various kinds of diseases.
Why Yoga
One of the most important aspects of good health is fitness of the Cardiovascular System. A healthy Cardiovascular System provides Oxygen-rich blood to muscles and the muscle tissues use the oxygen to produce energy. This is normally achieved by good amount or physical exercise or Cardio Workout.
Yoga practice such as Surya Namaskar regularly is a very good Cardio Workout. With correct postures and movements we can maintain a very healthy Cardiovascular System. The capacity and function of Lungs is improved by different breathing practices like Bastrika, Kapalbhati, Anulom-Vilom Pranayama etc. This also does cleansing of the blood and reduce blood pressure and blood glucose levels. Anxiety and Stress are also reduced and kept at a minimal level by Practising Yoga, Pranayam and Meditation.
In addition, Yoga keeps our muscles strong and flexible thereby reducing different types of body and joint pains due to arthritis.
Practice Yoga regularly and Stay Healthy
Daily Yoga practice for about half an hour combined with 5 to 10 minutes of Pranayama (breathing techniques) and 10 to 20 minutes of Meditation can give a very good result. For this, you must get initiation from a Yogacharya (an experienced Yoga Practitioner) who can explain to you the effects, correct postures and various do’s and don’ts.
I would advise you not to start Yoga practice just by watching some videos without proper guidance as it can create some difficulties for you while or after doing Yoga. The Yoga postures (Yogasana) must be synchronized with proper breathing steps. Otherwise the results can go negative.
Find out a proper Yoga Practitioner nearest to your place and get the initiation in various Yoga postures. All postures are not suitable for everyone especially for those having high blood pressure or severe back/joint pain. Hence proper guidance is absolutely necessary.
