Sunday the 3rd July 2022 saw a major accident, so horrifying, during the very first lap of the F1 British Grand Prix. But thank god, the drivers involved in the accident escaped without suffering major injuries.
The Silverstone racing circuit witnessed two separate car crash incidents yesterday. The first one was in the F2 racing, involving Roy Nissany and the second in F1 with Zhou Guanyu. Luckily, both drivers were able to survive the crash.
The F1 Race started normally and in no time Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu, Mercedes’ George Russel and Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly were involved in a major accident. Zhou’s car rolled over after the crash, which travelled upside down into the barriers at the Abbey Corner. The car was seen stuck between the tyre wall and fencing after the horrific accident.
Zhou, who was taken away from the car on a stretcher for treatment at the medical centre was declared ok and clear by the medical team later. It seems he was conscious throughout the time. It was really a miracle that saved Zhou’s life. George Russel, who was inspected by the medical staff was also declared fit.
Zhou later mentioned that he is all ok and clear and also that the Halo saved his life yesterday. The “Halo Device” is a curved crash-protection device fitted on the top of a Formula One car above the driver’s head. It was first introduced in 2016 and brought into the F1 to protect drivers from debris flying during an accident or when the vehicle turns upside down. Zhou thanked everyone for their prayers and wishes. George Russel was seen quickly getting out of his car after the incident and went over to check on Zhou.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished first, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez second and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton third, which was restarted after the red flag, completing 52 laps in the race. It was Carlos Sainz’ first ever GP win and Lewis Hamilton established a new one-track podium marker (13 podiums).
