Harp

Harp is a stringed musical instrument having a Soundboard and a number of strings running at an angle to the Soundboard. Harp is played by plucking the strings with fingers and tapping on the Soundboard. The instrument is triangular in shape and it can be played in various ways like standing or sitting. It is used in Orchestras and Concerts. Harps can be found in Iraq, Iran, Egypt, India, China, Europe and Americas. All Harps have a neck, resonator and strings. The triangular or frame Harps have a pillar at their long end to support the strings. Arch Harps and Bow Harps which are classified as Open Harps do not have the pillar. On the occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day, presenting to you the Vande Mataram song on Mandolin, played by Sri Pradipta Sengupta. Vande Mataram (Mother, I bow to thee) is a poem written in Sanskrit by Sri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1870s. It was first sung by Sri Rabindranath Tagore in the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress. The song is adopted as the National Song of India in October 1937, which played a vital role in the Indian Independence Movement. The Constituent Assembly of India adopted Vande Mataram as the National Song on 26th January 1950. Similar to the Ghatam, Tablas are tuned in such a way that they produce different tones. Mr. Paul Grant is an American by birth. He is recognized for his mastery of the art of Santur playing in Indian, Iran and Afghan traditions. Born in 1951 in Atlanta, USA, he started his musical career as a drummer and singer. It is used in various kinds of music in different parts of the world. Accordion is played by compressing and/or expanding the bellows while pressing buttons. Ektara

Ektara is a single stringed musical instrument originally used by bards and minstrels from India and used in the traditional music of South Asia. It is also used in modern-day music of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. There is a two-stringed version, which is called Dotara. Ektara can be found in many parts of India and Nepal, with Yogis and Holy men, accompanying their singing and prayers. Ektara is also known as Actara, Yaktaro, Gopichand, Golki. Construction The simplest version of Ektara is made with a Bamboo Stick, Wooden Bowl covered with Deer Skin and one String.
