Astronomers have recently observed a Cosmic Boomerang effect. Molecular gas streams that are stripped away from a Galaxy circle back and return later due to this effect.
The Astronomers used data from the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy (CARMA) and the NASA/ESA Hubble Telescope. They have found this Cosmic Boomerang in the Northwest Quadrant of the Spiral Galaxy NGC 4921 in the Coma Cluster.
The Coma Cluster is a large group of Galaxies approximately 300 million light-years away in the Northern Constellation of Coma Berenices. This observation could offer new insights inti the life cycle of Galaxies and structural formations within Galaxies as traced by Molecular Gas.
