Indian Art and Craft – Bidri Craft

Bidri is a unique craft form of Andhra Pradesh/Telengana in India. The origin was from the main city Hyderabad.

Bidri is a Craft form where silver work is done on metals with intricate carving using a sharp chisel. The base metals used are Zinc, Copper or Alloys of Tin. The name of the Art/Craft form is derived from town called Bidar which is currently a part of Karnataka. The process involves several stages of Casting, Engraving, Inlaying and Oxidizing.

Traditional patterns include various flowers, leaves, geometric designs, human figure etc. Bidriware were used for making hookahs, paan-holdres, vases, bowls, earrings, trays ornament boxes and similar.
