Mahasu is one of the Nati Folk Dance forms of Himachal Pradesh. The Mahasu dance form originated in the region of Mahasu Pahari speaking area. It is mainly spoken in the Shimla and Solan areas.
Nati Folk dance form is considered as one of the most famous dance forms of Himachal Pradesh. It is performed in the honor of Lord Mahasu and conducted during the Mahasu Festival in the month of August, known as Mahasu Devta fair.
Costume and Songs
Both male and female wear best and colourful clothing during the dance. Male dancers wear traditional clothing and female dancers wear jewellery and do make up. The songs used for the dance is of soft and smooth in nature. Dancers sway themselves in motion as the melody start and forget themselves in the dance. The songs of the dance form is based on real-life concepts, work or love-life.
