Naga Dance or Naga War Dance is a traditional dance form of Nagaland, a state in the Northeastern India. Nagaland shares borders with Arunachal Pradesh to the North, Assam to the West, Manipur to the South and Myanmar to the East. Due to the proximity, Assam is also influenced highly by the Naga Dance.
Naga Dances are the Martial-Arts based celebratory dances and depict their valor, bravery and strength. Men and Women participate in the dance performances. The dance costumes include Spears, Swords, Shields etc., worn by the performers which is closely linked to their mythological stories. Naga Dance illustrates the stories of bravery, power, courage and strength and is a symbol of victory.
The footsteps and movements of the dance performance depict their unique war techniques and express the Naga cultural traditions. The whole body and the movement of the dancers form like a single unit during the dance performance. This dance form has certain distinctive characteristics like aggressive movements, strong rhythmic folk music and beat.
