Tippani Dance is a famous folk dance form of Gujarat in India. It is originated from the Chorward and Veraval Regions of Saurashtra in Gujarat and has a perstigious reputation in the modern India. Tippani dance is performed during festivals and wedding.
Tippani is made out of two wooden sticks having about 175 cm length. They are joined together by a square wooden or iron block, which is called as Garbo at the lower end. This is the prop that the dancers use during the dance performance. Laborers of Koli community used to break stones, level the ground and press lime into the foundation of a house using the Tippani.
Women dancers perform the Tippani dance. They hold Tippani while beating the floor in two opposite rows during dance. The dance is accompanied by Folk songs. Basic instruments like Turi and Thali (brass plate) are used to create music while other instruments like Dhol, Tabla Shehnai, Manjira etc. are also used.
