On the occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day, presenting to you the Vande Mataram song on Mandolin, played by Sri Pradipta Sengupta. Vande Mataram (Mother, I bow to thee) is a poem written in Sanskrit by Sri Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1870s. It was first sung by Sri Rabindranath Tagore in the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress.
The song is adopted as the National Song of India in October 1937, which played a vital role in the Indian Independence Movement. The Constituent Assembly of India adopted Vande Mataram as the National Song on 26th January 1950.
