A team of scientists from Germany and Netherlands have discovered a new, unexpected State of Matter – A Liquid Glass.
Reports published by Sci-News.com on 6th of January 2021 show that the Scientists used a technique called Confocal Microscopy. They found that suspensions of Ellipsoidal Colloids formed an unexpected State of Matter which they have called as Liquid Glass. They report that individual particles are able to move but unable to rotate.
Studies
Studies on Suspensions of Colloidal Particles are made for a long time which are widely spread in the nature and technology. Scientists say “When the density of such suspensions is increased to high volume fractions, often their structural dynamics are arrested in a disordered, glassy state before they can form an ordered structure.”
In their experiments, Professor Zumbusch, from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Konstanz and co-authors focused on ellipsoidal polymethylmethacrylate colloids.
