Read an article on Sci-News, dated 25th October 2021 about the connection between Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Blood Triglyceride Levels. Thought it is worth sharing with you all.
The article says that scientists have found a link between the two. They say that people with more severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea and reduction in Blood Oxygen Concentration have more chances of elevated concentrations of Triglycerides in the Blood.
People having OSA get partial or complete obstruction of Upper Airways. This results in intermittent Hypoxia, varying Sleep Fragmentation and Daytime Sleepiness. Hypoxia is a condition in which the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply at the tissue level. Hypoxia may be classified as either generalized, affecting the whole body, or local, affecting a region of the body.
Triglycerides are fats from the food we eat that are carried in the blood. Most of the fats we eat, including butter, margarines, and oils, are in triglyceride form. Excess calories, alcohol or sugar in the body turn into triglycerides and are stored in fat cells throughout the body.
