Supercapacitors are components that consist of two Electrical Conductors separated by an Insulating Layer. They belong to the family of Capacitors which can store electrical energy. I read an article published on TechXplore, dated 28th February 2022 which I thought is worth sharing.
Supercapacitors have many positive properties compared to the normal Batteries. They have a higher lifespan, more rapid charging, more energy distribution. Micro-Supercapacitors can be a revolutionary breakthrough for the production of superior battery technology as stated in the article. They can change the way the we use batteries, by increasing their lifespan and enabling extremely fast charging. Supercapacitors are also known as Ultracapacitors.
The article says that researchers at Chalmers University of Sweden have developed a method that represents breakthrough for how such Supercapacitors can be produced. When a Supercapacitor is combined with a battery in an electrically powered product, the battery life can be extended many times. This can be up to four times in commercial electrical vehicles.
