Viral Pneumonia is a complex disease which is caused by Influenza Virus, Rhinovirus and Adenovirus. The diagnosis can be difficult and frequently based on the exclusion of bacterial etiology. Its treatment can be ineffective due to the low number of molecules active against viruses commonly involved[1].
Pneumonia is an infection in the lungs which can be mild or serious, most often caused by bacteria or viruses. It is more common in children below 5 years of age[2]. Some of these bacteria and viruses can be spread by direct contact with a person who is already infected with them.
Who are at risk?
A child who is having a weak immune system, ongoing health problems (chronic), problems with lungs or airways is more likely to get pneumonia. Children younger that one year old are also at risk if they are around secondhand tobacco smoke especially if their mother smokes.
